PHOENIX -- Officials have released photographs of his injuries after a police sergeant was dragged nearly 1/2 mile during a traffic stop earlier this year.
WARNING: Some of the photographs may too graphic for some viewersSergeant David Lundberg was injured when his arm was caught in the window of a vehicle driven by 26-year-old Elizabeth Rich and he was dragged as she tried to flee.
On Monday, Rich was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
According to a release from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, Rich was the passenger in a car that had been pulled over by police on June 6.
The driver was arrested on outstanding warrants. When the officer tried talking to Rich, who also had outstanding warrants, she jumped into the driver's seat and hit the gas.
Mike Scerbo, a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, said Rich partially closed the car window while Phoenix Police Sergeant David Lundberg's arm was inside the car.
According to the release, Lundberg was dragged for about half a mile before he freed himself, but did survive his injuries.
The car soon crashed and Rich fled on foot. She was quickly arrested.
On September 30 Rich pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, and unlawful flight from a law enforcement vehicle.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas said, "We are grateful Sergeant Lundberg survived the assault, and that his attacker will spend a long time in prison."
