On what would have been Craig Smith's 49th birthday, his parents Blaine and Aletha Smith, along with Molly the Flying Dog, paid a visit to the ABC15 studio to view a memorial bell set up in the station's courtyard, honoring his son.

"We had never seen it, we just heard about it," said Smith's father.

Brian Smith, Craig's brother, said he had seen video of the memorial online and shared it with his family.

"Of course, we couldn't see very much of it (online), so we wanted to come and see it," added Blaine.

This marked the first time Craig's parents have seen the memorial.

His mother, who held back tears, was able to appreciate the mark her son has left behind. "It's great that he's remembered, it's great that he's remembered."

Craig Smith was killed during a helicopter collision on July 27th, 2007.

His dog, Molly, was not in the helicopter with him at the time of the crash.

The crash also killed ABC15 photographer Rick Krolak along with KTVK's Jim Cox and Scott Bowerbank.
