PHOENIX – Police caught a driver speeding away from a hit and run that reportedly left a bicyclist dead on Monday night.
The victim was on a bicycle near 18th Street and Broadway Road when he was hit by a car around 10 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The driver allegedly left the scene and, a few blocks away, passed by some officers who caught him speeding.
Police pulled the driver over and the driver told officers he had hit someone, according to the report.
Police went to the scene and found the bicyclist.
The man was reportedly pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver is in custody and police said they do not believe he was under any influence.
