The sparkler lobby must test the wind by bringing this to the legislature and new governor about every 8-10 yrs. This legislation has been voted down for decades, but given the economy and if these things are taxed, they just might pass it this time. I hope not. I'm not looking forward to hearing about all the injuries and (more er visits). With some of the culture here, it's accidents waiting to happen and the corners will be loaded with these things so I agree with BillinAZ.

Ya know for 200 years our country has been using fireworks to celebrate our freedom. It has been an american tradtion for many years on the 4th of July. Many fireworks such as blackcats, ladyfingers, sparklers, smokebombs and snakes are extremly minor and when used by responsible adults who read the directions are completly safe even in a desert state. The 4th of July has been another holiday that was supposed to represent something great turned into nothing more than (Whats on sale at the at the store) A kitchen knife, baseball bat, car, plane, and almost any item when used irrisponsibly can be dangerous, so should we outlaw all those to. I wonder if the people who are against fireworks would be the first to immediatly surrender in the event of a foriegn invasion like the French.

1 day a year, one day... to celebrate our countries greatest achievments to aquire freedom for all, and a longstanding tradtion of people using fireworks once a year, one day a year has been reduced to popping some lame caps on the ground or party poppers from the grocery store. Ohh but wait, we can still go and see a fireworks display where they are using high grade explosives, and have more risk of injury or death than any minor fireworks like blackcats, ladyfingers,,,etc...being used by a responsible adult American citizen. If your too irresponsible to use or follow the safety directions on the labels then don't use them, buy them, or be around them, but please refrain from being anti-american and lets us real Americans celebrate our countries freedom and liberty this one day a year with the longstanding representation of tradtion on the 4th of July. Or, you could just go live in France.

wangradio, fabricator4u and Cacti P., that's why they were all outlawed to begin with. But the powers that be are younger and don't have that memory, don't think of the big picture, or the long run and what the 'cons' might be. Looks like they're trying to find tax revenue just about anyplace. We are turning into Californica bit by bit.

I was born in Chicago,I always missed the fireworks and the stands since I lived here. When I drove a truck,I would go out of my way to stop in Moapa Nevada and buy whatever my meager salary would allow(and the wife for that matter),and hide em in the cab(illegal as hell, but so was my pistol)then take my down time in Ocean Shores Washington on the beach reliving my childhood with sparklers, snakes, black cats and all manner of things that look pretty and go whooosh and boom!Sparklers aint gonna get it.Every dang thing humans do can hurt us,its just now we have a benevolent government that knows better than we do,and plenty of cave dwellers who live in fear of their own shadow to support it.How in the world did we survive, nigh proggress to these lofty heights of human endeavor without them before?Fingers burned?Get a grip!

This is definitely not one of the wisest ideas! Combine alcohol and some of these idiots with the IQ of a rock and there will be injuries and property damage--without a doubt. It's way too dry here in the valley. Unfortunately they aren't testing for common sense prior to letting people buy them and set them off.

Fminus - 5/27/2009 11:27 AM
My neighbors haven't paid any attention to the fireworks laws. They set off fireworks on 4th of July, New Years Eve, National Potato Week, J Edgar Hoover's Birthday and any other minor celebration. So why do these legislators think this is a priority? Contributions to their election fund from the fireworks companies. :o PS: Almost all fireworks are made in China. Wang Chung Everyone! LMAO

The age should be 18 to purchase, The buyer needs to be able to indemnify, or be held accountable by society. Try to sue a 16 year old for setting your house on fire or burning your 6 year old in a prank.

This is a bad idea, too many idiots here. All the illegals will just try to out do their cousins with more and bigger displays. It will lead to more illegal fireworks, gun shooting. Can you imagine how much money ACCHS will have to spend on medical bills.
