PHOENIX -- A brand new recycling education center opens Wednesday in Phoenix.

The interactive display is located within the Hudson Baylor West Materials Recovery Facility near 19th Street on University Drive.

Hudson Baylor spokesperson Danette Dunn said the idea behind the education center is to increase awareness of how recycling works.

Visitors will learn what and how Valley residents currently recycle and what happens to materials once they leave the curb.

Inside the center visitors can use hands-on exhibits showing how recycling materials are collected and processed.  There's also a recycled robot named "Murph." Visitors can also participate in games, interactive displays and watch a short film showing the "cradle-to-cradle" philosophy that outlines a successful recycling program.

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman were expected to be part of Wednesday's grand opening celebration.
