PHOENIX -- A former advisor to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will head one of the largest U.S. Attorney's offices in the country.

The Senate today unanimously confirmed Dennis K. Burke to head up U.S. Attorney's offices in a district which covers Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff, and Yuma.

Burke succeeds John C. Tuchi, who was named temporary head of the offices in August.

The Arizona U.S. Attorney's office employs more than 300 staff members and also serves 22 Indian nations.

Burke is a former chief of staff for then-Governor Napolitano, and has also served in the Arizona Attorney General's office.   He has experience as a prosecutor in drug and organized crime cases.

"I am extremely honored to serve in this capacity," Burke said.  "The U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Arizona prosecutes one of the highest and most diverse case loads in the nation."

President Barack Obama named Burke to the position in July.
