PHOENIX – Five people were taken to a local hospital after a van collided with a light rail train in central Phoenix Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened about 3 p.m. at Central Avenue just north of Indian School Road.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesperson Dorian Jackson said a female driver from out of town reported that she heard a horn just before the van she was driving collided with the light rail.
According to Dorian, the woman and a male passenger in the van had to be extricated from the vehicle and were transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
Three light rail passengers were also taken to the hospital with very minor injuries, officials said.
Jackson said the light rail suffered minimal damage and was able to continue on its route despite minor delays.
