PHOENIX – Residents from across the Valley reported shaking beneath their feet on Monday morning.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude struck in the Gulf of California, 460 miles south of Phoenix, at 10:55 a.m. Arizona time.

It was followed by a bigger, 6.9 magnitude quake at 11 a.m.

Tremors from the quake made it all the way to Arizona.

A series of large aftershocks have also followed, at both 11:30 a.m. and 11:40 a.m.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Alex Rangel said a high-rise near downtown shook violently enough that workers evacuated.

Rangel said the workers are back in their offices and fire crews did not respond.

Employees at a Glendale sporting-goods store also called to report their building shaking. Rangel said there have been no damage or injury reports related to the quake.

User Rascal55 writes, "I guess I lived in So. Cal. too long, unless it feels like at least a 4.0 you don't notice them. I'm in Gilbert right now and didn't feel a thing."
