AHWATUKEE, AZ -- To most it may just be another cup of joe, coffee or java as some would call it, but at Cupz N' Crepes a free cup of coffee means money going back into a Phoenix library.

Owners Terrie and Rick Martinez are giving away a cup a coffee for every book customers donate.

"It was just a little something we could do to give back," said Terrie Martinez.

The couple started giving away their coffee when they heard the library was suffering because of the budget cuts.

"We're short hours, we're short employees and when we get staff there's no hours to sell this stuff," said Library Volunteer Ed Reis.

The Martinez's opened their coffee shop on Chandler Boulevard about a year ago.

"The community has been great," said Rick Martinez. "They've supported us and we're doing whatever we can to return the favor."

Now at the place known for its big menu and crepes-to-die-for sits a big cardboard box of books.

Terrie said so many people have been donating the box has to be replaced every day.

Reis said most of the money collected from the sale of the books or the donations will go to benefit the library's youth program

"It's not just Ahwatukee your helping, you helping a bunch of other branches in downtown Phoenix," said Reis.
