New details have been released that help to explain the death of a 2-year-old boy in Northern Arizona from last week.
The child was killed after his father accidentally hit him while driving in front of their home outside of Prescott on Wednesday afternoon, said Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies.
Deputies said they arrived at the Bagdad home about 4 p.m. last Wednesday to discover the critically injured child.
The child was airlifted from the scene to Yavapai Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
Reports indicate the child was struck at the roadway’s edge as the truck was slowly pulling forward from the yard towards the street.
The father reportedly told deputies he was not aware his son moved into the truck’s path as he began driving.
Deputies said the height of the truck made it impossible for the driver to see a small child who was in close proximity to the front of the vehicle.
Driver impairment has been ruled out and the father has fully cooperated throughout the investigation, officials said.
