A 2-year-old Flagstaff boy who wandered away from his house was found in deep snow nearly a mile away from home by searchers on Tuesday.

Sheriff's deputies in Coconino County say the boy was playing with his dog near his home just east of the city when he wandered away.

The dog returned home alone, and the parents searched the area for about an hour before calling authorities.

Deputies followed footprints east through dense brush, under a wire fence and through the woods in snow varying from 20 to 30 inches deep.

They located the boy less than an hour after launching their search.

He was found dressed in tennis shoes and a heavy winter jacket and wasn't hurt.
