Two men were arrested after they allegedly assaulted deputies during a traffic stop that resulted in a drug find and a DUI in Yavapai County, near Prescott, on Saturday.
A Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputy stopped a silver Ford F-150 truck for an apparent red light violation on Bradshaw Mountain Road and Highway 69.
The deputy approached the vehicle and the driver, 23-year-old Olin Beecher, and the passenger, 22-year-old Daniel Powskey, both from Peach Springs, admitted to drinking after the deputy reportedly observed a 6-pack of beer in plain sight on the floorboard.
Officials said the two occupants were asked to exit the vehicle and the deputy began a field sobriety investigation with Beecher.
During the field sobriety tests, Powskey reportedly taunted the deputy and threw rocks into the roadway.
An assisting deputy arrived and Powskey was handcuffed due to officer safety concerns, according to the report.
Officials said Powskey then allegedly began to threaten the deputies as he was placed in a patrol vehicle, kicked and attempted to spit on the deputies, and was then charged for assaulting a peace officer.
A search of the truck revealed open containers of rum and gin, and a marijuana cigarette in a bag near the passenger seat was also reportedly discovered.
Beecher was placed under arrest for DUI and open container violations, but began kicking the windows and complaining of medical problems after being placed into the patrol vehicle, according to the report.
EMS was called to the scene and apparently cleared Beecher for booking.
While placing him back in the patrol vehicle, Beecher allegedly kicked the arresting deputy and attempted to shatter windows in the patrol vehicle.
Beecher was booked for Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia, Open Container and DUI.
Powskey was also booked at the Prescott Detention Center for Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Open Container and Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.
Both remain in-custody, each with a $10,000 bond.
