PRESCOTT, AZ -- Authorities say an Arizona man suspected in a California murder was arrested by sheriff's detectives in Prescott Sunday.
According to Yavapai County Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn, 56-year-old Gary Scott was arrested at a campground after the department received a call through Silent Witness last Saturday.
D'Evelyn said Scott was identified as one of two suspects in the murder of a man in Sonoma County.
Sonoma County Sheriff's detectives were able to give the YCSO a description of Scott's vehicle and a possible location off the Senator Highway.
YCSO detectives found Scott's vehicle mid-morning Sunday and set up surveillance.
With assistance from Prescott Police Department officers, Scott was taken into custody as he was leaving a cabin at the location, D'Evelyn said.
After being interviewed by Sonoma County and YCSO detectives, Scott was booked for murder at the Camp Verde Jail pending and is waiting to be transferred to California authorities.
Scott is a suspect in the death of Micheal Tillman, a 66-year-old, Guerneville, Calif. resident.
Officials with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that Tillman was found dead at a Guerneville home Saturday after another man, 35-year-old Andrew Sharkey, told deputies he had witnessed a possible murder.
They said Scott fled the area shortly after the murder.
Sharkey was also arrested for arrested for murder, officials said.
Sonoma County officials did not release details on a motive or the cause of Tillman's death.
