PRESCOTT, AZ -- Prescott officials didn't have to go too far to find their new police chief.
City manager Steve Norwood named Deputy Chief Mike Kabbel as police chief, effective immediately. The 47-year-old Kabbel joined the Prescott Police Department in 1990 as a patrol officer and worked his way up the ranks.
Kabbel takes over the department from Randy Oaks who resigned.
Norwood said he decided against a national search, for a replacement for Oaks, because of the time and money involved.
The 47-year-old Kabbel began working for the Prescott Police Department in 1990 as a patrol officer.
Oaks officially stepped down as police chief this past week.
He will continue as a police department consultant until January.
