PRESCOTT, AZ – Police arrested a teen suspected of child abuse after a month long investigation into severe injuries sustained by his 9-month-old child.
Enrique Soto, 19, was arrested Tuesday after he admitted to shaking his infant child, causing severe injuries, according to Prescott Police Lt. Clayton Heath.
Soto reportedly brought the boy into the Yavapai Regional Medical Center on October 7 because the child was unresponsive after having a seizure, according to Prescott Police Lt. Clayton Heath.
According to authorities, the baby had two subdural brain bleedings and was flown out to the Flagstaff Medical Center for surgery.
Doctors discovered more bleeding in the child’s head that was a common indicator of abusive head trauma and likely the result of shaken baby syndrome, officials said.
The child apparently recovered and was released to the custody of his mother, who was not living with Soto.
Detectives launched an investigation into the incident and during their interviews with Soto, he reportedly admitted to shaking his child.
Soto was transported to the Camp Verde Jail where he is facing charges of child abuse and aggravated assault on a minor.
