PRESCOTT, AZ -- Police have arrested a 35-year-old man after a woman was stabbed while working in her Prescott art shop last month, officials say.
Prescott Police say the 50-year-old woman was stabbed in the back on October 30 while working in her shop on Whiskey Row. There was no known reason for the attack.
The suspect reportedly fled the area and the victim was air-lifted to Flagstaff Regional Medical Center where she was treated and eventually released, according to police.
On Wednesday, a downtown worker noticed a subject that was acting suspiciously and matched the description of the suspect, police said.
The suspect apparently went into a hotel on Whiskey Row and the witness called police.
Officers and detectives found Phillip M. Ewing in the hotel, police said. He reportedly fit the suspect description and made unprovoked statements to police about the incident.
Police reportedly found evidence in his room linking him to the stabbing and he was identified in a photo lineup by a witness.
Ewing was booked into Yavapai County Jail.
The Prescott Police Department is asking for help from the public in the investigation. Anyone with information about Ewing on the day of the stabbing should call Det. Ryan Hobbs at 928-777-1920 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
