PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ -- Five Arizona Department of Homeland Security grants are ready for approval by the mayor of Prescott Valley.
One grant for $279,349 covers a regional communications system.
Homeland Security notified the police department Sept. 18 that it had approved grant financing for the communications system. The police department wants to build the system on state trust land.
The goal is eliminating dead spots where patrol officers cannot communicate through their police radios with the dispatch headquarters in downtown Prescott.
It's up to Mayor Harvey Skoog to sign the contracts to accept the Homeland Security grants. Approval could come Thursday evening when the city council meets.
