I like the implication that all “flat-landers” as you call us are “stupid, irresponsible morons”. I guarantee most of us “stupid flat-landers” take more than the appropriate measures to extinguish our fires before we leave them unattended…every time!!! You “hill-folk” have just as many retards per capita as we do down here that can be irresponsible so please don’t turn this into a blame game SunsNut, until you have all the facts.

Is anyone else confused by Lordina's rant? Not sure what that had to do with the fire in Payson...I got a little dizzy reading it!!

In regards to the comment about the Dude Fire. It was NOT caused by an unattended camp fire. http://www.fireleadership.gov/toolbox/staffride/downloads/lsr11/lsr11_related_factors.pdf

Desertrat9, I haven't heard if Pine is being evacuated and I rather doubt it is. This fire is closer to Payson than it is to Pine. Irregardless of how it started, why it started, I just hope they get a handle on it as fast as possible.

desertrat9 - 8/31/2009 10:32 AM
Does anybody know if Pine is being avacuated also?

We watched the fire from our place but fortunately the rain started and helped out the fire crews. The fire "may be under investigation" but I'll bet everything in my wallet it was started by some irresponsible flat-lander in that stupid campground. My husband already lost everything he owns once when the Dude Fire came through here in June of 1990. That's why our place is for sale. We're not going to lose it again to stupid morons who don't give a damn about anyone but themselves. They go off and leave their camp fires still smoldering with no regard to the consequences.

I don't know why the fire restrictions were lifted. It makes no sense to me. I was up there when they issued the evacuation and had to leave my family's cabin. Luckily we all made it out of there, but we're still really stressing about what's going to happen to our cabin.

as dry as it's been with no monsoon....why was the fire restrictions lifted ??? the camp grounds up in the area are always jam packed an no one seems to care about putting out their campfires......with labor day weekend just around the corner PLEASE put fire restrictions back in force.....i to have a cabin in the rim trail area and would like to have it for many years to come.....

vhdawgfan - 8/30/2009 8:39 PM
I guess this will be the test for all the clearing and prescribed burns done in the area. I have a cabin in Whispering Pines and I hope all the prevention done in the past couple of years pays off.
