CAMP VERDE, AZ – A woman was arrested for extreme DUI after a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a car traveling around 100 mph on a freeway Friday morning.
YCSO said the driver of the white passenger car traveled westbound on Highway 260, over the Interstate 17 overpass, and continued west by entering a construction zone that had a reduced speed limit and congested lanes.
Deputies who were following the car said the driver passed multiple cars on the wrong side of the road.
After almost hitting another vehicle that was stopped in traffic, the speeding car stopped at milepost 216, close to the Yavapai County Camp Verde Jail, and was promptly approached by deputies, YCSO Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn said.
The driver was identified as Linda Majenty, 25, of Fredonia, according to D’Evelyn.
Alcohol was detected on Majenty’s breath, plus she was unable to stand on her own and frequently mumbled while repeatedly falling asleep, D’Evelyn said.
Deputies checked her driver’s license and discovered that her license had been suspended in 2007 for an aggravated DUI charge.
Majenty was arrested and booked into the Camp Verde Jail, which was very close to where she was stopped.
A breath alcohol concentration test showed that Majenty was close to three times over the legal limit with an alcohol concentration of .235.
Upon further investigation of the case, it was learned that a YCSO detention officer was almost hit on his way to work by Majenty, who was allegedly driving at 80 mph at the time. The officer reported the incident to 911.
There were numerous other drivers and construction workers in the area where the suspect was dangerously driving.
Majenty was charged with aggravated DUI, 7 counts of endangerment, extreme DUI, driving on a suspended license, criminal speeding and having an open container in a vehicle.
