WILLIAMS, AZ -- Fire crews continue to work on the Ten-X Prescribed Burn southeast of Tusayan on the Kaibab National Forest.
The Ten-X Prescribed Burn project began last week and covers about 2,800 acres, four miles southeast of Tusayan along Forest Roads 302 and 303. So far, about 300 acres of the project are complete.
“Our prescribed burn projects are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that future fires in the area remain at a lower level of intensity, thereby protecting firefighters and the community,” Kaibab National Forest Information Officer, Punky Moore said.
Moore goes on to say that campers and hikers in the area may be able to see smoke in the distance and because of the burn project, there is a temporary one mile detour on the Arizona trail from Watson Tank onto Forest Road 303.
