PHOENIX (AP) -- Just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, the U.S. Forest Service is lifting fire restrictions in the Tonto National Forest.
Smoking and campfires will once again be allowed beginning Wednesday morning
The Forest Service said fire restrictions are no longer needed because the fire danger has been reduced by increased moisture and humidity from the annual monsoon season. The wetter conditions prompted officials to lift forest fire restrictions.
Visitors are urged to properly extinguish cigarettes in ashtrays, and ashes in a campfire ring should be cold enough to touch before they are left.
The fire restrictions began May 14.
