A New Mexico man was arrested for stealing gas, identification theft and possession of drug paraphernalia on Saturday.

According to Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Scott Veretto, 29, climbed the fence of a Seligman tow company yard, stole a five gallon container of gas and emptied the contents in his red car’s fuel tank before leaving the scene.

DPS was notified of Veretto’s vehicle and spotted the vehicle on the I-40, east of Seligman.

When DPS pulled Veretto and his four passengers over, Veretto admitted to stealing the gas because of a power outage in the area, none of the local gas stations were able to pump gas.

DPS searched Veretto’s vehicle finding a second New Mexico license with his picture but different New Mexico resident’s name, methamphetamine pipe with residue and prescription pills.

Deputies also found alleged burglary tools including lock picks, altered screwdrivers and hand files.

Veretto has been arrested and booked at Prescott Detention Center for burglary of a commercial yard, theft, possession of burglary tools, ID theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are trying to contact the New Mexico resident whose name appears on the license found in Veretto’s car.
