MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ – Deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a crash involving a tour bus and an SUV in the Grand Canyon area on Monday.
The accident occurred around 11:07 a.m., according to authorities, when a Hyundai Sante Fe SUV ran into the rear portion of an America Asia Express tour bus on Diamond Bar Road near milepost 11.
The driver of the SUV, Taron Honga, 25, of Peach Springs, was the only one injured as a result of the accident.
The crash happened when Honga rounded a curve in the roadway while traveling westbound and ran into the back of the tour bus, according to MCSO Public Information Specialist Trish Carter.
Honga sustained a laceration to the forehead and was transported Sunrise Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Investigators cite the fact that Honga was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident as the reason for the injury.
There were reportedly three other passengers inside the SUV, a 22-year-old woman, a 6-year-old child and a 2-month-old infant, all of which were uninjured.
All 48 passengers on the tour bus also escaped injury, officials say.
At this time the MCSO have reportedly found Honga at fault for the accident but are investigating the incident further, according to authorities.
