LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. -- The Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission has signed off on a new solar power plant north of Kingman.
The commission unanimously endorsed a major amendment to the county's general plan and a rezoning request.
Still to come, a vote by the board of supervisors.
The plant would sit on 4,000 acres of land that was once a planned housing development.
Officials with Hualapai Valley Power said the project would add about 1,500 jobs during three-years of construction.
The plant needs water to operate.
Kingman officials say the city is ready to negotiate with the plant's developers for use of 1,800 to 1,900 acre feet of effluent water to cool the plant.
The solar company said it would pay the estimated $10 million to build a pipeline from Kingman.
