LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ -- A huge granite war memorial has found a home in Lake Havasu City.

The Freedom Bridge Foundation said the eight-foot-tall statue, currently in Massachusetts, will take up residence in the city's Veterans Park.

The gray rock statue depicts an American soldier in uniform standing in front of a stone U.S.A. and waving an American flag.

The statue will be transported cross country, after Lake Havasu beat out 300 other U.S. cities competing for it.

A Massachusetts businessman and his wife created the statue.

When a local town declined the gift, it was offered up to cities across the nation.

Freedom Bridge Foundation President Margaret Nyberg said the statue will be treasured when it arrives in Lake Havasu City.
