RIVERSIDE, CA -- A convicted kidnapper who served 15 years in an Arizona prison has been charged for the 1986 murder of a San Bernardino County woman whose body was found nearly two years later.
San Bernardino County sheriff's detectives arrested 53-year-old Larry Hite on Tuesday in Riverside. He was charged Wednesday.
Hite is suspected of killing 28-year-old Nancy Klinger of Highland. Authorities say she went missing after going to meet Hite. Her remains were found in a remote area of Highland.
Hite moved to Lake Havasu City and was convicted in two rape cases, in 1987 and 1991.
Authorities didn't disclose what new evidence prompted them to seek an arrest warrant.
Hite was released from prison a year ago after serving time for kidnapping. He was initially charged with rape but the charge was dropped after he pleaded to kidnapping.
He is being held on $1 million bail.
