Flagstaff's city manager says federal immigration agents will have to look elsewhere for office space.
A memo from City Manager Kevin Burke says space in a law enforcement facility it shares with Coconino County won't be rented to Immigration and Customs Enforcement because of a "perception problem." The county says it has no space available.
Burke's memo says the main reason for not allowing agents to set up shop is a worry that victims and witnesses won't come to police because they're afraid of being deported.
ICE spokesman Vincent Picard said on Monday that the agency will keep looking for space in Flagstaff for its office of investigation, which targets drug smuggling organizations, human smugglers and child pornographers.
