FLAGSTAFF, AZ -- Some Flagstaff residents are joining forces in an effort to create a citywide ordinance aimed at cleaning up neighborhoods filled with junk, weeds and old sofas discarded on the sidewalk.
About 20 residents met last week to begin discussing the formation of a citywide property maintenance ordinance.
They want the city to have the legal tools to force owners of neglected properties to clean them up.
One more meeting is scheduled prior to the Flagstaff City Council discussion on the formation of a property maintenance law on Oct. 27.
Real estate agents and builders claim the creation of a property maintenance ordinance will be costly -- especially to older property owners living on fixed incomes -- and be overly intrusive into the lives of property owners.
