FLAGSTAFF, AZ -- With the possibility of snow and strong winds over the next few days, officials are warning residents and travelers in northern Arizona to be prepared for winter driving.
Officials with Coconino County say the National Weather Service is predicting about an inch of snow along with winds of up to 28 mph through Thursday morning.
Drivers are reminded that blowing and drifting snow can limit visibility and that roads can become icy as temperatures drop.
As the winter season approaches, drivers are reminded that parking is prohibited on county roads between November 1 and April 1 on a 24-hour basis. Vehicles should be kept clear of streets to help speed up snow removal and prevent damage to County and private vehicles.
When a county snow plow comes across a vehicle parked illegally within the right of way the Sheriff's Department will be contacted, officials say. If the owner cannot be reached, the vehicle will be towed.
Residents are reminded to be prepared for snow-ins and power outages from winter storms. County officials advise having extra bottled water and non-perishable food on hand, as well as flashlights, battery-powered radios and extra batteries in the home.
It is also recommended winterizing vehicles with snow tires, chains, blankets, water, a first aid kit, ice scraper, extra clothes, as well as keeping the gas tank at least half full.
