SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Police have arrested a Mesa man who allegedly robbed a Chase bank on Thursday afternoon after receiving several tips based on published surveillance photos.
According to a police report, officers received several anonymous tips about the suspect after surveillance photos were released by Phoenix media Friday. The tips apparently helped identify the suspect and several locations where he might be found.
Scottsdale police found 27-year-old John William Shannon at a motel near 34th Street and Van Buren in Phoenix where he was arrested at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday.
He was booked on charges of armed robbery, drug posession and outstanding felony warrants.
Shannon allegedly robbed a Chase Bank near Scottsdale and Indian School roads at around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Scottsdale police.
Sgt. Mark Clark said that Shannon gave the teller a note demanding money, but did not show a weapon.
Clark said the suspect then fled on a mountain or BMX-style bicycle.
The surveillance photos showed Shannon wearing a collared, purple shirt that may be some type of a work uniform, with a pen clipped to the collar, and showing a tattoo on his right neck that looked to be covered up or altered.
Clark credited Shannon's arrest with the media broadcast of the surveillance photographs.
