SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Scottsdale firefighters and police officers responded to a small fire that resulted in the evacuation of the main area of a busy mall Thursday.
It happened at about 4 p.m. at the Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall located at Scottsdale and Camelback roads.
The fire started in a transformer located in the parking garage beneath the Dillard's, according to Officer Dave Pubins of the Scottsdale Police Department.
Pubins said the fire was extinguished quickly with no injuries, however, it caused a 45 minute power outage to Dillard's and Neiman Marcus.
SRP repaired the electric box where the fire occurred.
"As a precaution, store customers were evacuated to the main mall area and approximately 100 employees have gone home for the remainder of the evening," said Pubins.
Both mall stores will be reopened Friday at the normal scheduled time of 10 a.m.
