SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- A jewelry owner said he was forced to tackle a man who tried to steal a $9,000 ring from his store on Tuesday night.

It happened in Old Town Scottsdale at The Estate Watch and Jewelry Company near Scottsdale Road and 5th Avenue.

According to a police report, 29-year-old Tempe resident Douglas Vigil walked into the store and asked to look at rings.

When a worker was showing him the $9,000 ring, Vigil grabbed the ring and ran out of the store.

The store owner, Don Edwards, apparently chased Vigil and tackled him a few blocks away. Edwards then held Vigil until another employee grabbed the ring.

After the ring was recovered, Edwards let Vigil go.

Police officers later found Vigil and arrested him. He now faces robbery charges.
