SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- Scottsdale police have arrested a 26-year-old woman accused of killing her ex-boyfriend and leaving him to rot in a hot tub.

Morgan Leigh Adams was picked up by police Thursday about 5:30 p.m.

She faces first-degree murder charges for the death of 44-year-old Dale Webber, who was shot once on May 11 during a robbery at his home near McDowell Road and Loop 101, court records show.

Webber's body was discovered May 14. Police originally called it a drowning. And at that time, no other information was released.

According to a police spokesman, officers didn't immediately know it was a murder.

The body was badly deteriorated from sitting in a hot tub for three days. And that a medical examiner later discovered that he had died from a single gun shot, the spokesman said.

Scottsdale police have declined talk more about the case because an investigation is ongoing.

But court records obtained by ABC15 through a public records request detail a robbery plot and murder cover-up by Adams and three other men.

The Connection

According to a report written by an arresting officer, Webber and Adams had dated for three years and lived together for a month.

He also supplied her with the prescription drug Oxycontin -- even after the two broke up.

Adams had purchased several pills from Webber in the days leading up to the murder, records show.

The drug buys also implicated other men police have connected to Webber's death.

Those men: Carlos Yero; Richard McInally; and Joseph Valdez.

The Plot

It's not yet clear what exactly happened inside Webber's south Scottsdale home on May 11.

But Adams and the other men "were conspiring to commit an armed robbery to obtain drugs and cash," court records show.

A landscaper found Webber dead three days later.

During an initial investigaiton, officers found money scattered around, a safe open, and several guns not involved in the shooting sitting on the ground.

Detectives thought that looked suspicious, one writing in a report that there's "evidence to show that the crime scene was staged," court records show.

Investigators began to conduct surveillance on Adams, Yero, McInally and Valdez.

And it wasn't until June 22, that a "reliable source" told detectives that the crew had planned an armed robbery.

But during that month, investigators also used cell phone calls and text messages to piece together information and gather evidence.

In a call that was intercepted by police, Adams' mother told her "(I) told the police that other people wanted Webber dead besides (you)."

Adams does have a criminal past.

In 2003, she was arrested for both shoplifting and forgery in separate crimes, court records show.

She paid fines and probation.

However, for Webber's death, besides first-degree murder, she also faces counts of consipiracy and robbery.

The three men were also arrested by police.
