SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- With another excessive heat warning hitting the Valley, most people try to stay indoors to beat the heat.

Jason Warner and Brett Stewart are the exceptions.

“I’m covered in sweat but it’s still a great workout. I wouldn’t change it for anything,” said Stewart.

Five days a week, the two triathletes go to a Scottsdale park and sweat through an hour-long workout outside in the extreme heat.

“We make it fun. The whole idea is it’s a playground workout. We’re working out like a couple of kids. We’re running around, we’re lifting things, we’re throwing things back and forth. It’s more play than it is workout. And just because it’s 110 degrees doesn’t mean we have to stop doing it” said Stewart.

The pair uses the soccer fields and playground equipment at the CAP Basin Sports Complex in North Scottsdale.

“It’s such a nice mental break it makes the workout fun and when you make a workout fun, you’ll stick with it,” said Warner.

Surprisingly, both men said not too long ago they were out of shape.

“Five years ago, I was about 50 pounds overweight, used to smoke two packs of cigarettes a day, and I couldn’t even run a mile,” recalled Stewart.

“18 months ago, I couldn’t run a full mile. I’ll being doing a half Ironman in November,” added Warner.
