CAVE CREEK, AZ –  On Monday, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of three people wanted in connection with the murder of a Cave Creek man last week.

On Saturday, deputies arrested Robert Thomas Pleickhardt, 32, and Kathleen Ann Madden, 43, "whom both admitted to their involvement in the death of Douglas Engstler," according to an MCSO news release.

Sunday night, deputies also arrested Corion Babers, 23, as a suspect in Engstler's murder.

On Tuesday, the 63-year-old victim's son found his body in his home located in the 5400 block of East El Sendero Road, near Cave Creek Road and Carefree Highway.

Detectives said the three suspects went to Engstler's home with the intention of robbing him.

Upon entering the house, Pleickhardt fought with Engstler and eventually subdued him by binding his arms and ankles, according to investigators.

Detectives said Madden told that them when Pleickhardt and Babers returned to the car, they told her Engstler was dead.

The news release stated, "Engstler was discovered with his hands and feet bound behind his back with electrical tape.  Detectives later traced the suspects back to a credit card belonging to to Engstler that was being used by two of the suspects at a nearby gas station."

All three suspects have been booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on first-degree murder, burglary and theft charges.

"I would like to commend my deputies who were able to make these arrests within days of this murder occurring," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
