ANTHEM-- Community leaders in Anthem are considering a proposal to put a veterans memorial in Anthem Community Park.
The memorial would feature five pillars of different heights, from seven feet up to 18 feet, each representing a branch of the armed forces, as well as a United States seal integrated into a large round of brick pavers.
As designed by the artist, each pillar would have a hole in it to allow the sun to shine through and be focused on the seal at exactly 11:11 a.m. on November 11, 2011, the time and date of the memorial's dedication.
The project would cost $124,620, which would come from Anthem's community enhancement fund.
Some of these costs would be offset by members of the public purchasing the pavers to remember family members and friends who were veterans.
The Anthem Community Council has approved the concept for the memorial, but has not committed any funds to this point.
