Autopsy of 27-year-old Scottsdale man amended to include anabolic steroids as a contributing factor in death.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner has officially amended the autopsy of Aaron Atchley after additional testing revealed Atchley's urine contained large amounts of testosterone.
The test results reveal Atchley's testosterone levels were 13 times the normal threshold.
Atchley's family paid for additional testing after the medical examiner refused their repeated requests to test Aaron's remains for anabolic steroids.
Aaron died in May.
The police report and crime scene photos reveal steroids were found at the scene, but the initial autopsy made no mention of this.
After our investigation, Atchley's family requested the medical examiner conduct additional testing, but they say the medical examiner refused.
State investigators made a similar request, but they say the medical examiner again refused.
Atchley's mother then exercised her legal right and requested the medical examiner send tissue samples to an independent lab for testing at the family's expense.
Atchley was a patient of Revolution Medical Centers.
A clinic that's currently under state and federal investigation for illegally prescribing anabolic steroids.
