Today is the last day to use what is left in your Flexible Spending Accounts.
While it is probably too late to get in to see the dentist, there are a few ways to spend what is left in the account so you don’t lose the money.
Remember, after today, whatever you leave in the account will be forfeited.
First Aid KitTake a trip to the drugstore to help empty your account. Over-the-counter medications qualify, so re-stock your first aid kit. If you don’t have one, make one. Make one for your home, your car and any place else you may need one.
Include: Band-aides, bandages, tape, braces, motion sickness pills, pain relievers, heating pads, thermometers, allergy medicines, acid reflux drugs, ice packs, blood pressure monitor, and even a defibrillator if you have that kind of money left over.
If you are unsure which products count as FSA approved over-the-counter medications, check out
Drugstore.com. They list the most common.
RxIf you take prescription medications, see if you can order the next few months' supply in advance. You will probably need to get your insurance company on the phone.
Gift CardsWhile it is probably too late to get eyeglasses, contact lenses and prescription sunglasses, which are reimbursable expenses, you can get a gift card at your optical store for future glasses.
And you can always stock up on contact solution.
Review your receiptsIf you save your receipts throughout the year, you may want to review them to see if any of them qualify for reimbursement.
You can use FSA money to pay for health insurance deductibles, co-payments, dental work, orthodontia, out-of-pocket expenses for fertility treatments and other medical expenses that aren't covered by insurance.
Doctor-recommended weight-loss programs and a trip to the chiropractor can count, too.
