Debt settlement companies really can settle your debt for less than you owe. But you can do it yourself, too, and save thousands in fees. Just quit paying for a couple months, and the credit cards will BEG you to pay 60 cents on the dollar (I worked briefly for a debt settlement company).

Years ago, I heard that Consumer Credit Councelors (CCC) were the only ones that were legit. Not sure if that is still the case, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

chances are, all the credit card debit services you hear advertised on radio are NOT legit.
