Three brands of pet food have been recalled in recent days including two kinds of dog food and one of cat food.

Mold was found in bags of Wysong dry dog foods manufactured in June and July of 2009.

No problems have been found or reported in any other Wysong food product.

To be safe, no products from the following batches should be sold or fed. The affected products are:

Wysong Maintenance™: lot #: 090617
Wysong Maintenance™: lot #: 090624
Wysong Maintenance™: lot #: 090706
Wysong Maintenance™: lot #: 090720
Wysong Senior™: lot #: 090623

You can return any of the affected food to the store you purchased it from.

Wysong is a natural food manufacturer. Mold spores are in all natural foods.

From what can be determined, the problem with the Wysong foods stems from unusually high heat and humidity in June and July.

This combined with a malfunctioning moisture checking device is believed to be the cause of the higher moisture and this isolated problem.

All Wysong foods have been tested for mycotoxins and are negative. That is the primary danger in consuming moldy foods.

If your pet has eaten the product, the most that could be expected would be loose stool, and this should clear upon changing from these lot numbers.

If you have any further questions you email Wysong at

Small pieces of melted plastic were recently found in the production line of select varieties of NUTRO®  dry dog products.

NUTRO

These foods had been distributed to a small number of PetSmart and Petco stores.

Diamond Pet Foods has issued a voluntary recall on the following date codes of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball cat:

RAF0501A22X 18lb., RAF0501A2X 6 lb., RAH0501A22X 18 lb., RAH0501A2X 6lb.

The manufacture date is May 28, 2009.

All retail outlets shipped the above lots were contacted, asking them to pull the product from the store shelves.

The retailers were also asked to contact their customers via email or telephone requesting them to check the date code of the food.

However, if you or anyone you know has these date codes of Premium Edge cat food, please return them to your retailer.

Symptoms displayed by an affected cat may include wobbly walking or muscle weakness, paralysis of the hindlimbs, seizures, ventroflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, and abnormal eye movement called nystagmus. Any cats fed these date codes that display these symptoms should be immediately taken to a veterinarian.

Product testing proved no contaminants were discovered in the cat food; however the cat foods were deficient in thiamine.

Diamond tracked the vitamin premix lot number that was utilized in these particular cat foods and have performed testing on another lot of Premium Edge cat food that used the same vitamin premix, and it was not deficient in thiamine.

No other neurological signs have been reported on any other product manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods.

To contact Premium Edge Pet Foods, you can call 800.977.8797 between the hours of 8am and 5pm central time, Monday through Friday.
