Click the play button on the video window to the right to see the storyWhile the death of Michael Jackson is sad for most, for others it is just another way to scheme their way into your computer or your wallet.
According to
Computerworld.com, some hackers are using the news of Michael Jackson’s death to infect computers with spyware.
The web site said the scheme comes in the form of breaking news alerts.
It looks like it’s coming from a legitimate news source such as the LA Times or CNN.
The alert often appears in Spanish or Portuguese and says it will link you to video of Jackson shown in an ambulance or to his body postmortem.
There is no video.
Instead, you’re asked to update your Adobe Flash software.
According to Computerworld.com, that’s how the hackers get to your personal information.
There is also another scheme going around in the form of an email from the “Michael Jackson Organization”.
It calls the pop star a “true humanitarian” and says you should follow his example by “sending money via Money Gram or Western Union”.
They want your money.
Tell them to beat it, because according to Computerworld.com, the email is bogus.
Unfortunately, these are not the only Michael Jackson schemes out there.
The BBB in Washington is
warning consumers about buying Michael Jackson memorabilia.
The Associated Press is
warning about spam emails and malicious web sites set up right after Jackson’s death.
