In many homes, families go through five cartons of milk a month or more.

But, even when you recycle the bulky milk jugs quickly take up the space in the recycle bin.

Lifestyle expert, Lainika Johnson Colbert figured there had to be a way to Reuse rather only Recycle them.

She found that by turning them into nifty sandwich boxes, she could get more mileage out of them and also save space in the recycling bin.

But, she didn't stop there!

Once she was on the road to repurposing, she started seeking out other ways to reuse everyday items that I would otherwise throw away.

Here are five ways you may have never thought of that the kids can enjoy making with you.

1. Sandwich boxes
Cut the top and the handle off of a milk carton.

Make 4 flaps, with one being 2 to 3 inches longer than the other 3.

Attach Velcro to the front and fold the flaps down.

Secure the overlapping flap at the Velcro.
