Law to modify illegal immigrant sanctions rejected

Reported by: Associated Press
Last Update: 11/04/2008 9:41 pm
Arizona voters have rejected a measure that would have made business-friendly modifications to sanctions for employers of illegal immigrants.

Leaders of the effort to punish those who hire illegal immigrants had opposed Proposition 202, saying it would have made it more difficult to prosecute violators.

Supporters, including restaurant operators and agricultural interests, contended it would have targeted dishonest employers while protecting honest ones.
