YUMA, AZ -- Authorities say a police drug detection dog was found dead in his kennel on Wednesday.

The Yuma Police Department said "Rudy" had been with the department since early 2003.

The dog's body was taken to a local veterinarian clinic for examination and tests to determine a cause of death.

Police say neither foul play nor negligence is suspected in the death.

The dog had been partnered with Detective Shawn Bledsoe since August 2005.

Officials said in a news release that, "Rudy was an integral part of the K-9 Unit and the Yuma Police Department. He served the Yuma Community well and was highly devoted to his handler and partner, Detective Bledsoe.  Rudy will be greatly missed by all."
