YUMA, AZ -- A former Yuma police officer charged with stealing nearly $11,000 in cash from evidence storage last year to support an addiction to prescription drugs entered a plea deal Friday.

In return for Geoffrey Michael Presco pleading guilty to one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices, prosecutors dismissed four other theft and drug charges against him.

A tentative sentencing date was set for Nov. 25. Prosecutors say Presco could be sentenced to a prison term ranging from three years to 12 1/2 years or could get probation.

As part of the plea agreement, Presco also must make full restitution.

Presco was fired from the Yuma Police Department in June after he was arrested on suspicion of theft.

He later confessed to spending the money to support his drug habit.
