YUMA, AZ -- Border Patrol agents in
Yuma responded to an emergency alert system Tuesday night and rescued six people in a remote desert area nearby.
When the agents arrived on scene they found six undocumented immigrants that were severely dehydrated.
Border Patrol agents say the group told them they had been stranded in the desert for almost two days without water.
After the group was checked out by a Border Patrol agent, who is also an EMT, they were given water and were taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center for medical care.
Once the six migrants are stable enough to leave the hospital agents say they will be taken to the Yuma Border Patrol Station and processed before being deported back to Mexico.
Since October 1, 2008, Border Partol agents in Yuma have assisted in 61 rescues. Twelve of those were done with the help of the emergency alert system.
