The shooting occurred early Sunday morning on the south side of the city.
Police spokesman Officer Charles Rydzak said officers responded to a 911 call about 6:20 a.m.
After arriving at a home, officers indicated over the police radio they had fired shots.
Rydzak said the man who was shot was armed and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's unclear if one or both officers fired at the man from outside the home.
Neither officer was injured.
