PHOENIX -- Authorities say Department of Public Safety officers seized over $140,000 in cash over two days in the Tucson area.
According to a DPS news release, on Wednesday officers pulled over an SUV for a traffic violation.
The officer saw indicators of criminal activity which led to a search of the vehicle.
During the search the officer found a hidden compartment in the dash of the vehicle with around $49,000.
The driver of the vehicle, Hector Jaimes, 26, of Tucson, was booked into the Pima County Jail on a charge of money laundering.
The next day the same officer stopped another vehicle for a traffic violation and when the officer deployed his K-9 it alerted on the vehicle.
During a search the officer found a shoe box in the backseat area of the vehicle and found approximately $104,000 in U.S. currency, officials said.
The driver of the vehicle, Maria Wytrykusz, 23, of Scottsdale was booked into the Pima County Jail on a money laundering charge.
