A U.S. Border Patrol agent working in Nogales is recovering after he was hit on the head by a cinder block on Monday morning.

Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman Mike Scioli says the male agent was conducting a fence check about a quarter mile east of the port of entry when somebody on top of the fence dropped a cinder block on his head.

The agent suffered a huge laceration on his forehead, damage to his nose, chest scrapes and an injury to his right hand.

He was taken to University Medical Center in Tucson.
