SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) -- Federal authorities say they have confiscated nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana that were flown into the United States from Mexico.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Spokesman Vincent Picard says some of the drugs were found after a Border Patrol agent saw an ultralight aircraft fly into southeastern Arizona about 3 a.m. Thursday before turning around and flying back to Mexico.
Picard says agents saw a vehicle in the same area and followed it until smugglers got nervous and abandoned it along with 216 pounds of marijuana.
Another 762 pounds of marijuana were found at a Douglas home after police officers followed a truck with tire treads matching tracks found at another drop site.
Picard says investigators believe the incidents are related.
